Topic 1 ideas
I viewed a few of the materials provided and found some really cool things. I first watched A Trip To The Moon and you can tell its really old based off the perception of the moon. When this film came out no one knew anything about what was on the moon and in the film they are chased by these skeleton looking army and the moon having a jungle on it and stuff shows that they were guessing what was on the moon. I also thought it was really cool how when they landed on the moon they literally stabbed the moon with the ship and it was so wacky it made me laugh. The process of opening up with them learning of the moon in a classroom to building a ship and going there was a great way to introduce people to the idea of space travel and around 30 to 40 years later people actually went to the moon for the first time.
I also watched the interview with Martin Scorsese and its something you got to watch because one of the greatest film directors of all time is sharing his knowledge. Sharing how visual literacy is super important in how a film or show turns out was something I never thought off before. The way something is filmed whether the angle or light or dark is very important to how you tell a story and it was a great video to learn from.
Lastly the New York Times article gave 5 very useful steps into writing an comparative essay and I've seen these techniques written in newspaper and website articles before but never understood why they did that until reading that article. Overall Topic 1 had a lot of great content to learn from and analysis.
