Syllabus Questions + Comments

My first question is about is about assignment grading. I'm not sure if it's been brought up by anyone else, but are blog posts graded in the same way as all other assignments? What length is considered appropriate for these posts? Also, what format will our final projects be presented in?

I'm really excited for this class and I'm looking forward to finding out which films we'll be covering. I would love to have additional films, outside of the ones we discuss, that I can watch outside of this course to supplement the material we're going over. Additional book recommendations would also be great. Just from the introduction presentation, this class is already by far my favorite, I can't wait to fully dive into the semester. Honestly, all I want to do is watch, analyze, discuss, and create films, so I'm really excited to finally take a course that focuses on those things.

Side note: I'm really loving Kanopy. I don't know how I've gone this long without hearing about it, but it's absolutely wild how many films are available for us to watch for free!

  1. Kanopy is great! It was a revelation for me as well. About grading, Jack, the information can be found in detail within the syllabus. Blog posts are the bulk of your course grade, and should be considered thorough writing assignments. All details about assignment prompts can be found in the individual topic PDFs, but most will be about 500 words minimum. The Final Project is still being put together. It is a major chunk of your final grade and will be a culmination of our topics and course materials, most likely taking the form of a major paper or other major production/presentation. I plan to have this ready to discuss with the class by late October-early November. In the meantime, keep a record of the topics, terms, films and histories that particularly grab your attention!
